about us mission statement our history why cambridge college programmes a-level past a-level results ufp (university foundation programme) secondary school igcse sat/toefl cambridge checkpoint facilities admission a-level and ufp admission o-level admission testimonials alumni contact us consistency over the years august 17, 2016 a-level , admission , sixth form , teaching & learning , ufp let your child testimonial be among the best students in the world read more my 2016 a-level experience june 1, 2016 a-level , alumni , sixth form , students' articles , teaching & learning , testimonials , ufp my experience in cambridge college was awesome. i learnt how to read and understand what i am being taught in class. my teachers, mr. faremi, mr. oresanya, mr. femi and miss seun have been so good to me. in cambridge college, i also learnt how to comport myself, interact well with my classmates and be of good morals. my classmates were also friendly to me. the college has been accommodative to me. the weekly tests made me realize my capacities when it came to academics. i have learnt a lot from my classmates, academically and socially. in cambridge college, i learnt that hardwork and commitment is the easiest way to success. the a-level wasn’t a joke. though in cambridge college, i experienced a lot of challenges in my academics. in my secondary school, i had the habit of cramming a day or two, before the test in order to pass; but here in cambridge college, through the help of the teachers and classmates, i have cultivated the habit of actually reading to understand, which i know, has helped me. in cambridge college, i also learnt that focusing on my goals is a key factor that determines what i will achieve at the end of the game. at first, when i came into the college, i felt it would be impossible for me to cope with the teaching and environment but due to the effective teaching, i felt comfortable learning. in cambridge college, i learnt that failure shouldn’t even be an option of someone who really wants to succeed. it’s quite a short program, but i know that the knowledge i acquired here in this great college, will last for a very long period. i will miss all my classmates and the staff. however, i hope we all meet at greater heights. lawal segun a-level, 2016 read more my 2014 a-level experience may 26, 2015 alumni , sixth form , students' articles , teaching & learning , testimonials , ufp somiari lucky godwin somiari lucky godwin june 2014: appliedict (a), mathematics (b), physics (a) my a-level programme at cambridge college was an interesting and exciting journey, one i wouldn’t forget in a hurry. for the first time in my life i was surrounded by teachers who truly knew it all (trust me) and geniuses as classmates. i didn’t know what to expect and as such i was scared and hopeful at the same time. four weeks into the programme it became clear to me that although i had great teachers, my success would be a function of my hard work and diligence; as a result i told myself that i would strive to attain excellence. let’s fast forward the story to result day. result day: mr. azeez had just called to tell me my grades. after that call, was i sad? no. did i think i could have done better? yes. i knew i could have done better if i had put in more effort. so why didn’t i do better? what would i do differently if i were to go through the programme again? many questions. many answers. well, for starters, if i were to go through the programme again, i would be true to myself. yes. i wouldn’t convince myself that because i managed to answer a question in class or because i got above average in a class test that i had truly mastered the concepts of the topics treated. i would discipline myself to thoroughly go through the little details of the topics covered in class, i would look for tough questions (not from past questions, at least not yet) to test my understanding of the lessons taught. that way, if and when i found any gap in my understanding i would be bold enough to approach a classmate who i believe had a better understanding of the lesson. for the record, i bothered mojibola, kenechukwu and idris (appliedict boys in my set ) in the appliedict class, they understood microsoft access better than i did and so i bothered them until they taught me every single thing they knew about it. ask questions when you don’t understand things. assist those that don’t understand too. a-level is not a winner-takes-it-all competition, you can all succeed. so what happens when that boy/girl that seems to know everything can’t answer your question? it means you now have to run to your teachers. they don’t spend quality time teaching you just so you would understand half of the lesson. they really want you to come to them when you find gaps in your understanding. if i were to go through the programme again, i would always seek out my teachers whenever i had even the slightest doubt about any concept. another thing i would do differently would be to start preparing earlier. i can’t stress this enough. the a-level is not a marathon, it’s a sprint. today you’re celebrating christmas, before you know it you’re in the exam hall tackling mechanics 2. start early. don’t postpone the evil days (mr. azeez’ quote). you don’t want to be having sleepless nights close to your exams. perfect your exam techniques before the exams, that’s what the tests are meant to help you do. not get cheap glory. what then happens if by march-april you haven’t achieved much? again, be true to yourself. what is it that you don’t understand? are you really ready for a change? answer those questions sincerely, talk to your teachers about the problem, set targets and work hard. miracles happen you know. another thing i would do would be to take very good care of myself. it wouldn’t be nice if after all the hard work and early preparation you fall sick close to the exams. it would be painful. i spent the days before my exams lying on a hospital bed and trust me, you don’t want any of that. sleep when you are supposed to sleep. eat good food. play a little. a-level can be fun too. but don’t get distracted. those pretty looking girls in your class, those handsome boys in your class. that your locker that is more stocked than the shelves in shoprite. that person that always annoys you. those things that will not help you in the long run. avoid them. be smart. after the programme you can do all you want (before college of course). finally, work smart. pray when you can. use your weekends wisely. what’s the need of reading all night if you’ll sleep in class the next day? be consistent. find what works for you and stick with it. remember after all the class tests, result sheets prepared with pen-markers of different colours, scolding/praises from teachers, the dodo (i just had to add that) and the fun moments, what will really matter at the end is your final result. it would be a shame to top the class all through the programme and fail in the end. same way it would be a shame to remain at the bottom of the class even after your final exams. believe in yourself, your teachers believe in you. reach for the stars. i wish you good luck. ps: please ace your exams, i don’t want you writing a what-i-would-do-differently story. you will write a how-i-did-it story. believe. arinola lawal arinola lawal june 2014: chemistry (a), physics (a), mathematics (a) when i think of my a level experience, i think of the myriad of emotions i felt during those nine months. it was like a high jump bar that constantly moved of its own accord. it would seem high when i was wondering how i could possibly understand all that i had to learn before the final examinations. the times when i did well on tests, the bar would appear to be at a lower position. i never did completely get rid of the nerves i had at the beginning. that is where making friends came in. there is a good feeling you get when you realise that you’re not the o
